A brief legal explanation of the AKGL
The task of the AKGL is to counteract discrimination by members of the University and to advise and support the members and bodies of the University in matters of equal treatment and the advancement of women (§ 42 para. 1 UG). The AKGL also deals with issues relating to the advancement of women (§ 42 para. 1 UG in conjunction with § 41 para. 2 B-GlBG). In order to carry out its duties, the AKGL is granted extensive rights of information, control and participation.
The members of the AKGL are not bound by any instructions or orders when exercising their function (cf. Art. 81c B-VG, § 42 para. 3 UG). Its members are subject to official secrecy (cf. Art. 20 para. 3 B-VG, § 48 UG). They may not be hindered in the exercise of their powers and may not be disadvantaged because of their activities (cf. § 42 para. 3 UG).
